Is ‘just finishing’ really good enough?

Is it? At first, when you’re sitting on the couch and thinking about a marathon, it seems so gigantic, so overwhelming. But then you train, and run, and run, and ‘finishing’ doesn’t seem all that impossible anymore. Then, you pull up last year’s results and see that at your current (and planned) pace, you would finish 70 out of 75 in your age group. Really? Do they give you a cookie and a scratch-and-sniff sticker for 70 out of 75? Ugh. Ignorance is bliss.
