Backstroke is Hard

Ok, I know that sounds really lame, but holy cow was that an eye-opener today. It was backstroke day in the pool, and I don’t think I’ve swam more than 50 yards of backstroke before in my life. So, it started with lots of swallowed water, followed by me whacking my hands on the side the pool, the pool lanes, my lap partners, you name it. Then more water swallowing, and finally by the end, a little shoulder rotation while still keeping my head above water. Needless to say, it was an interesting morning.
But, I am reminded again that I am my worst enemy, and if I get in that crappy, frustrated mindset, nothing will improve. Just take a few breaths (preferably above water), and hit the reset button.
